Detect & Escape: Ways to Detect, Escape and Survive a Fire

October is Fire Safety Month, an important observance for The Hartford which began as a fire insurance company over 200 years ago. To continue our tradition of fire safety and education, below are tips you can share with your clients to help them prevent a fire and stay safe.

Get Smart about Home Fire Safety

Home, it's the place where you expect to feel safe. But more fire deaths and injuries occur in the home than in any other place. Don't underestimate the danger of home fire. Follow home fire safety tips and make sure your family is in the know when it comes to house fire dangers.

Smoke Alarms Are the Sound for Safety

Smoke alarm safety is very important. Having enough smoke alarms and keeping them in working condition are important fire safety steps you can take to save lives in your home. Alarms can alert you and your family to danger before the smoke and heat harm you.

Develop Your Home Fire Escape Plan

Despite your best prevention efforts, a home fire may still occur. At the first sign of smoke or fire, you must act quickly and calmly. Develop an effective home fire escape plan and practice it often to help you react appropriately in a fire emergency. When you create your fire escape plan, be sure to include everyone in your family, as well as your pets.

Be Prepared with a Car Emergency Kit

Having a car emergency kit in your car is sort of like having good insurance. You hope you'll never need it – but boy are you glad it's there on road trips if you have an accident or need to help others.
